Wafian introduces the HR-2, a 10-bit 4:4:4 dual-link video recorder for digital film acquisition.

Wafian introduces the HR-2, a 10-bit 4:4:4 dual-link video recorder for digital film acquisition.

Wafian Introduces two new Direct-to-Disk Video Recorders

Solana Beach, California – April 10, 2007 – Wafian Corporation today introduced the Wafian HR-F1 and Wafian HR-2 Direct-to-Disk video recorders.

Wafian HR-F1 for 4:2:2 Field Recording

The HR-F1 is the world’s first portable Direct-to-Disk full HD resolution 10-bit field HDSDI video recorder using the award-winning CineForm Intermediate format. Responding to customer requests for a smaller and lighter field version of the Wafian HR-1, the company created the HRF1 with field use in mind. It’s rugged, DC-powered and small enough to fit into a monitor case yet can still store over 10 hours of master quality footage on a single hot-swappable media drive.

Optional Solid State Recording Media

The HR-F1 allows additional recorder media options including a 160GB flash disk that can hold over 2 hours of video recorded at 160 Mbps. “Recording to the flash disk makes this product ideal for high shock and vibration applications,” said Jeff Youel, President of Wafian Corporation.

Wafian HR-2 for 4:4:4 Recording

Wafian also introduced the HR-2, a 10-bit 4:4:4 dual-link video recorder for digital film acquisition.

The HR-2 records into the CineForm 444 format at 360 Mb/s. “Recent quality analysis shows CineForm 444 at 360 Mbps provides higher visual fidelity, as measured by PSNR, than a competitor’s products at 440 Mbps,” said Youel.

At the time the HR-2 is released, all of the Wafian recorders will have the ability to export recorded clips directly to industry standard DPX files.

Pricing and Availability

The Wafian HR-F1 is scheduled for delivery in July 2007 and will have an estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $17,000. The Wafian HR-2 will be available in June 2007 with an estimated cost of $25,000.

All of Wafian's Direct-to-Disk HD Video Recorders (HR-1, HR-F1, and HR-2) lower the cost of HD acquisition by recording master quality footage directly into the editable CineForm Intermediate format which enables efficient online tapeless workflows. Recorded clips are stored in .MOV or .AVI file wrappers which are immediately viewable on Intel-based Macintosh and Windows computers.
