Can I Call You Back In Two Minutes…I’m Watching TV On My Cell Phone

NEW YORK –– June 29, 2005 – Two Minute Television and SmartVideo Technologies Inc. today announced a new kind of TV channel for a new kind of TV screen--- two minute TV shows on your cell phone. Now, anyone with a smartphone or PDA equipped with a media player can escape the hustle and bustle of their busy day to watch original series on their cell phones in genres like comedy, reality, sports, fashion, animation and music. The free, ad-supported entertainment channel will put series such as Genius on a Shoestring; the first two-minute reality series, Adventures in Speed Dating; News with a Punchline; and Red Carpet TV – in the palm of your hand. Most people don’t know that TV on cell phones is already a reality-- close to 70 million phones in the U.S. are equipped with media players that support the SmartVideo system.

Two Minute Television has been creating short-form content for television for many years. What has changed is the pace of our lifestyles and the quality of the viewing experience on the internet and cell phones. Now they are pioneering a new genre- original, episodic, short-form shows complete with rich characters, deep plot lines and cliff hangers. The first series, Genius on a Shoestring, proved the multi-platform concept-- reaching a TV audience of 3.5 million viewers, played across the internet including the websites of 114 television stations, and appearing on wireless carriers in the US, Canada and Europe.

“We read the research and recognize that people just don’t want to sit around and watch 60 minute shows like they used to,” said David Post, Chairman of Two Minute Television. “We all leave the house with our cell phones, so wouldn’t He cited a national survey conducted in late June by DRI in which two thirds of respondents were open to the idea of watching short-form TV shows on cell phones. In particular, respondents were most interested in comedy and lifestyle related shows.

Two Minute Television will join other content creators on the SmartVideo platform, including ABC News, CNBC and E! but will be unique in offering original, episodic shows. According to Richard E. Bennett, Jr., president and CEO of SmartVideo, “their original, episodic television programs are ideal for the third screen, and we are glad that Two Minute Television has embraced this emerging medium.”

In addition to the three two-minute series it has in production, Two Minute Television has six more series in development, including Cinderella Stories, which follows a person’s transformation in preparation for his/her big day, Emma in Two, the first two minute sitcom, The Two Minute Drill, a sports block of compilation segments as well as other shows. The shows are all original and not re-purposed from long form TV, and all are being made available for three screens: television, the Internet and cellphones.

One thing is certain, we love our TV and we love our cell phones. Now Two Minute Television and SmartVideo brings the best of TV to your cell phone.
