 | The Switch™ Expands Network to Include The Toronto Switch, ‘Entertainment Tonight’ First Customer
July 6, 2009 — Beers Enterprises Inc. announced today that The Toronto Switch’s newest location of its six-city network, and second international location, is now in operation.
Beers Enterprises Inc., also announced that Entertainment Tonight, the #1 syndicated entertainment news magazine show, which has utilized The Switch’s Inter City On Demand (ICOD) transmission services since its inception, is the first customer for transmission services to Canada. In addition to the multi-year HD transmission service agreement ET signed with The Switch last year for service between New York and Los Angeles, ET will now rely on The Switch’s ICOD transmission service to reach ET Canada at Canada’s Global Television in Toronto.
“Canada is a key market for us,” said Dan Henry, Executive in Charge of Production for “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider”. “We are pleased that The Switch has extended its network capabilities to Toronto. Their ICOD system is both convenient and efficient for our production.”
ET, which is in its 28th season, was created by Al Masini in 1981. It is produced and distributed by CBS Television Distribution, a unit of CBS Corp. ET’s anchors include Mary Hart and Mark Steines. Its executive producer is Linda Bell Blue.
The Toronto Switch, located at 151 Front Street in downtown Toronto is connected to The Switch’s network via eight duplex SDI paths between New York and Toronto. The Toronto Switch is also connected via SDI circuits to the Toronto Bell TOC. Customers of all locations of The Switch will be able to connect to The Toronto Switch through The Switch’s ICOD (Inter-City on Demand) service.
ICOD is the revolutionary, on-demand, long-haul transmission service of The Switch. Through The Switch’s touch-screen terminals, customers of The Switch can select 8, 20, or 270 Mbps bandwidths between all cities of The Switch. ICOD requires no call to a carrier, reservation or minimum transmission time.
