2006 MTV Video Music Awards Gets Video Assist From Grass Valley Turbo iDDR
The high-definition (HD) images displayed on the walls, ceilings and on 17 large LED video walls inside Radio City Music Hall, in New York City, for this year’s 2006 MTV Video Music Awards will be brought to you by a series of Grass Valley™ Turbo™ Intelligent Digital Disk Recorders (iDDRs) from Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS).
For the MTV telecast, which airs on Thursday, August 31st at 8:00 PM, Eastern, Dave Lemmink, director of engineering at Nocturne Productions--whose company is responsible for providing the system for screen play-out at the event--will oversee the use of seven Grass Valley Turbo iDDRs, all networked together to play back the HD videos. HD clips organized and stored on the Turbo systems will be controlled externally for HD multi-channel playout.
Nocturne Productions used two Grass Valley Turbo iDDRs in a similar way for the recent international Bon Jovi live tour, along with a Grass Valley Kalypso™ HD switcher, five Grass Valley LDK 6000 HD cameras, a Grass Valley 64 x 64 Concerto™ Series HD video router and Grass Valley modular gear. It will soon use a similar equipment complement, including two Turbo iDDRs for the resumption of the upcoming Aerosmith tour, which begins in Columbus, Ohio on September 14th.
Nocturne provides live entertainment and corporate production services at the arena and stadium level. These services include LED, projection and multi-camera capture and display of both standard and high-definition video images.
