Venezuela’s Radio Caracas Television Opens New Digital Facility With $1M in Grass Valley Technology

Completing an extensive digital upgrade that began last year, Radio Caracas Television C.A. (RCTV), which operates a major radio and TV station in Venezuela, went on air from its new production facilities outfitted with a full complement of Grass Valley equipment.

The new studios are being used to launch a series of live and recorded specials. The significant purchase order, valued at approximately $1million, features all of the key pieces of Grass Valley digital equipment necessary to furnish three new studios for news production, a central equipment room and studio control rooms.

This includes nine Grass Valley LDK 300 standard-definition (SD) camera cameras with triax adapters; an LDK 300 with a wireless triax adapter, a Zodiak™ switcher, two KayakDD digital production switchers, Concerto™ Series router, and a significant selection of different Gecko™ and Kameleon™ signal conversion and distribution modules.

The conversion of RCTV to Grass Valley digital technology is the latest in a series of major customer wins throughout the Latin American region. They all share a desire to take advantage of the cost-effective benefits of digital while having a clear upgrade path to high-definition production; found across the entire range of Grass Valley technology and systems.

“RCTV has been using another manufacturer’s cameras for many years, but the time was right to consider Grass Valley digital production technology, as it offers us flexibility, reliability and practical affordability, together with excellent local service and support” said Edgardo Mosca, vice president of Engineering for RCTV. “The LDK 300 cameras offer superior performance that we could not find anywhere else in a camera of this size. It integrates perfectly with our new robotic camera system and gives us digital acquisition capability, which will improve our on-air look. We expect to be relying on Grass Valley for many years to come.”

Equally impressed with the Zodiak and KayakDD digital production switchers Mosca said, “RCTV has been a Grass Valley customer for the past decades and we have a large installed base of analog and digital video switchers and routing equipment.”
