Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II camera

Artear Improves On-air Signal Quality with Grass Valley LDK 6000 WorldCam HD Cameras

Paris/Nevada City, Calif., July 7, 2005 — Taking its first major steps towards full production in high-definition (HD), Artear, a pioneering broadcaster in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has purchased six Grass Valley™ LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam HD cameras from Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) The forward-looking move will immediately improve the popular South American TV channel’s on-air look in the standard-definition world, while protecting its investment by securely positioning it for native high-definition production when the time is right.

Founded in 1960, Artear is the second largest channel in Argentina, dedicated to offering news, entertainment and sports programming. The broadcaster has been a pioneer in Argentina; broadcasting the first transmission of programs in stereo audio, the first to transmit a second language channel (SAP), and first to migrate to digital production. With its purchase of Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam cameras, Artear is now the first in the country to install equipment designed specifically for HD production.

“Thomson is pleased to be working with such a television broadcast pioneer and we applaud them for their vision in recognizing the flexibility and value of the Grass Valley LDK 6000 WorldCam camera,” said Marc Valentin, president of the Grass Valley business with Thomson. “The WorldCam camera is designed to help production studios and broadcasters like Artear make the transition to HD production and smooth and cost-effective as possible. Media organizations like Artear are proving everyday that the HDTV transition with products and systems from Thomson can be affordable if managed correctly.”

The new Grass Valley LDK 6000 WorldCam cameras, which allow users to capture images natively in both the 720p and 1080i HD formats, will be installed in Artear’s main studios to help produce its numerous newscast and local news programs. The camera purchase was facilitated by FDM Broadcast, the main distributor for Grass Valley equipment in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

“We wanted a clear and affordable path to HD and, for us, that meant purchasing the Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam camera, which can capture projects in a variety of HD formats and will immediately make our SD channels look better,” said TK, Artear. “We’ve always been first to use cutting-edge technology and we’ll soon be the first in Argentina to move to full HD production. We think the time is right and the Thomson equipment we’ve selected is right.”
