Mobile Companies Capture 2005 NBA Playoffs & Finals Series with Grass Valley HD Cameras & Switchers

Veteran mobile production companies Game Creek Video and NEP Supershooters provided the equipment featuring a host of Grass Valley multi-format acquisition and production gear and on-site production services for this year’s National Basketball Association (NBA) Western Conference Playoff Series and 2005 NBA Finals Series for ABC Sports and ESPN HD. The Finals will begin on June 9, 2005.

A total of six trucks between them are using Grass Valley Kalypso™ SD and HD Video Production Center and XtenDD HD switchers, as well as Grass Valley LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam HD cameras to cover the action live in standard- and high-definition (SD/HD) resolution.

Game Creek Video, located in Hudson, N.H., was on-site with two of its trucks, one of which has a Kalypso™ HD Video Production Center on board, to cover the Western Conference Playoff Series for ABC and ESPN, which were broadcast last week.

Some of the playoffs games, which began on April 23rd, were produced in SD, with a Kalypso SD 3 M/E switcher and some, including the NBA Finals, in the 720p high-definition (HD) format (including 5.1 Dolby Digital audio) with a Grass Valley Kalypso HD 4 M/E switcher.

Game Creek’s 53-foot Patriot (featuring a Kalypso HD system) and Yankee Clipper (Kalypso HD with the Grass Valley GVeous digital video effects generator) trucks were on the road in various cities (such as Phoenix, Ariz.; Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas; Seattle, Wash.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Indianapolis, Ind.) producing the NBA Western Conference Playoffs series in the 720p HD format for the ESPN HD channel and ABC Sports. Playoff games covered with the company’s Intrepid (featuring a Kalypso SD) and Southern Cross (Kalypso SD) trucks handled SD productions for ESPN and ABC Sports. The state-of-the-art Patriot and Yankee Clipper all-digital HD trucks are now producing program elements for the NBA Finals series telecasts.

NEP SuperShooters, based in Pittsburgh, Penn., is providing live game coverage of the NBA Finals for ABC Sports with two of its most sophisticated HD trucks; SS-20 features a Kalypso HD switcher, while SS-26 boasts a Grass Valley XtenDD HD switcher. Both trucks carry more than 20 LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam HD cameras.
