Shotoku Broadcast Systems Broadens Global Reach With Launch Of UK-Based Operation

Las Vegas, NV (April 18, 2005) -- Shotoku Broadcast Systems , an international leader in the manufacture and marketing of camera support products, has broadened its global presence by opening a UK-based operation. The new company, Shotoku Ltd., is located in Staines, England under the direction of industry veteran Mike Wolfe. The launch coincides with the Company’s introduction of its new robotic camera range at NAB 2005. Naoki Ebimoto, Shotoku Broadcast System’s US president, made both announcements today in the Las Vegas Convention Center. Shotoku maintains US headquarters in Irvine, CA.

Shotoku Ltd. will be responsible for all robotic camera range development and manufacture as well as sales of the complete Shotoku product range to the European market and numerous other countries.

“We are very excited to embark on this new venture that will expand our operations on a global level, but will also give customers a choice regarding their robotics needs,” stated Ebimoto. “Our new robotics range is compatible with other manufacturers equipment, thus allowing customers to enjoy the cost-saving and operational benefit of utilizing their existing products in conjunction with our new range. It’s a win-win situation all around.”

The robotics range launches with a complement of pan / tilt heads designed for a wide variety of applications, including Legislatures/Parliaments, sports arenas, and all studio environments such as news, talk shows, and virtual reality sets. The robotic range also includes control panels with numerous unique features that are also capable of interfacing with other manufacturers heads.

Mike Wolfe will head up the new UK operation. Most recently, he held the position of Managing Director of Emmy Award winning Radamec Broadcast Systems and comes to Shotoku with an outstanding industry pedigree. During his 12 year tenure as Radamec’s Managing Director, he built the Company into the world’s leading robotic camera supplier for broadcast television. Wolfe was also responsible for successfully opening new markets, including expansion to the US, and introducing new product lines to the Legislative/Parliamentary and broadcast industry segments.

As the driving force behind new development, Wolfe established partnerships with research organizations such as BBC Research and OmniPerception leading to many product launches including advanced virtual studio and tracking systems .

“We are very fortunate to have Mike at the helm of our new UK outfit,” said Ebimoto. “His robotics experience is second to none and his market knowledge is unparalleled. He is the ideal candidate to drive the Staines office successfully. We look forward to an exciting future and the opportunity to serve our customers with the highest level of service, most advanced products, and the finest professionals in the industry today.”

Established in 1941 as an engineering design firm specializing in unique machines, Shotoku has been developing television pedestal and cam head technologies since 1953. The Company’s products and services range from professional outside broadcast, EFP and HD tripods, to multi-stage pedestals, fluid heads with full pan/tilt capabilities, to a complete line of virtual reality equipment including encoders, serial interfaces, fluid heads and pedestals. The Company is an acknowledged industry innovator in Japan, maintaining four factories throughout the country.
