 | Media Manager at the European Parliament
The European Parliament has entrusted SGT
, the European leader in Media Asset Management*, with the management of the workflow for its audiovisual contributions. These contributions are made available by satellite for the EBS (Europe By Satellite) channel and other European television broadcasters. They include coverage of parliamentary sessions and press conferences in Strasbourg and Brussels as well as reports from other locations.
SGT's Media Manager is used at every stage of the workflow, including ingest and digitization, indexing, viewing and the insertion of comments, offline editing, archiving, and media search.
Depending on the type of contribution, digitization is carried out either live or from videotapes, in 4 or 25 languages.
For the handling of media, the Browsing and Offline Editing modules enable the system's users to view media, even during digitization, and to select content for the creation of excerpts or compilations. The offline edits are done in low-bitrate format and exported in EDL to NewsEdit editing stations by Thomson. The high-bitrate content needed for the editing process is automatically made available by Media Manager's DBOS Loader, with partial restore if needed.
The system's capacity to handle multiple languages and simultaneous operations saves time for all users: journalists, production teams, editors, archive librarians, etc.
In addition, Media Manager guarantees the European Parliament the perenniality of its media. The system centralizes the media and makes them immediately available in multiple languages, thus ensuring optimized management and allowing all member states to derive the greatest benefit from these audiovisual resources.
