SGI and PipelineFX to Demonstrate Workflow-Ready Solution for Render Management at NAB 2007

Honolulu, HI – April 16, 2007 – PipelineFX, makers of Qube!™ software, the leading render farm management software for film production, game development, and digital media education around the world, today announced that it will demonstrate Qube! 5.1 in partnership with SGI (Silicon Graphics, Inc.) at NAB 2007.

SGI and PipelineFX will be demonstrating the SGI Professional Services workflow-ready solution for render management system consisting of an SGI® Altix® XE240 server as the render farm “supervisor”, the SGI® Altix® XE210 servers as the “workers” and Qube! software running on BOXX and Apple G5 workstations. This will also be the NAB debut of the SGI® Altix® XE310 (quad core) servers at the show. Based on an innovative new board design, the SGI Altix XE310 supports up to 16 processor cores per 1U package, delivering industry-leading performance density and cost efficiency. The Altix® XE310 supports one or two dual-core or quad-core Intel® Xeon® processors, and up to 32 GB memory per node, making it an ideal render farm server.

“SGI is very pleased to launch the first SGI Professional Services Workflow-Ready Solution for Render Management with PipelineFX at NAB,” says Louise Ledeen, Market Segment Manager, Digital Content Management and Media at SGI. “We're seeing lots of opportunities not only in the media markets, but in engineering analysis and bioinformatics as well. Customers absolutely see the value of an integrated render management solution. Qube! 5.1 interfaces seamlessly with the leading modeling and rendering applications, and now coupled with the Altix XE servers, we can offer a turn-key solution with price and performance that is exceptional, and the services that ensure that the render farm is online quickly. The design goal was to create a great "out of the box" experience for the creative and technical users, as well as the IT department – to make it easy to purchase, install, service and upgrade - and we're really excited that we've achieved that with PipelineFX.”

PipelineFX will be showing the latest version of its software, Qube! 5.1, that comes with enhanced application support and industry-standard Python scripting, offering improved workflows and development productivity.

The new Qube! GUI includes:
  • Fully python-scriptable interface that allows studios to customize GUI for their pipelines
  • Streamlined layout designed to easily present key information to users and administrators
  • Single window layout that removes need to navigate through multiple windows to find information
  • New panels: "Farm-at-a-Glance" panel displays worker status summary for entire farm, "Output" panel displays output images from jobs, "Histogram" panel displays task/frame render times
  • Enhanced and streamlined right-click menus that act on multiple workers/hosts, along with jobs and frames/tasks, and new "retry failed frames" menu to simplify this common action
  • Submit dialogs that are now modal and use standard controls
"We are excited to show the power of Qube! running on the latest render farm hardware from SGI," said Troy Brooks, CEO of PipelineFX. "With 16 processor cores in a 1U form factor, SGI is delivering ultradense rendering power that can be managed by a single Qube! license, providing an extremely costeffective rendering solution."
