Riedel Expanded its Comprehensive Hybrid TDM/IP Intercom Range

Las Vegas, USA (April 20, 2009). – Riedel Communications Inc., pioneer of advanced intercom, fiber and radio technology, introduced the Connect IPx2 panel interface, which is the latest addition to Riedel’s comprehensive Voice-over-IP product range. Being the small brother of Riedel’s Connect IPx8 panel interface, it is designed to connect up to two Artist control panels to Artist intercom matrices via IP based networks. Connect IPx2 is the perfect team mate for Riedel’s VoIP-108 eight channel VoIP client card, which is installed directly in the mainframe.

All Riedel VoIP solutions are designed to transport high quality audio with low bandwidth over IP-based networks. Developed for mission critical applications such as live broadcast productions, the device provides several failsafe options, which ensure audio is available even under extreme conditions. The range of supported codecs includes PCM, G.711 and G.722 with packet loss concealment – a unique feature in the world of intercom. To always ensure best possible audio quality, the user can choose between a high-quality mode with an audio bandwidth of 7 kHz and a low-traffic mode with 3.5 kHz audio bandwidth.

Riedel’s Voice-over-IP solutions establish the connection via the SIP protocol and are prepared for the upcoming IP standardization from the AES. This feature also allows calls to any SIP-compatible VoiP telephone. The panel interfaces Connect IPx8 and Connect IPx2 flawlessly connect any Artist 1000, 2000, 3000 or 5000 series control panel with full functionality to Artist matrices via IP-networks.

The VOIP-108 G2 client card and the Connect IPx2 panel interface can be configured directly in the Director configuration software or via any Internet browser. Internally both the card and the panel interface are run an embedded operating system. This architecture is a sound investment since the devices can be updated to codecs available in the future.
