First Omneon Spectrum™ Server System in China Goes to Ningbo TV

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Aug. 16, 2005 -- Omneon Video Networks today announced that it has installed its first Omneon Spectrum™ media server in the People's Republic of China. The system at Ningbo TV includes 300 hours of storage and two channels, one to play out Ningbo TV's new children's channel, which went live in June, and the second for future expansion.

Ningbo TV currently broadcasts 100 hours of programming per day on five channels: News, Economy and Life, City Culture, Movies, and Children's. The security, flexibility, and ease of expansion of the Omneon server were key reasons that Ningbo TV selected it over the servers they have used in the past.

"The Omneon Spectrum gives Ningbo TV a highly reliable broadcast server that is very easy to expand as their needs change," said Derek Chau, vice president of Guanhua Glory, Omneon's exclusive distributor in China. "The format flexibility, ease of expansion, and ease of integration with existing equipment were all very important factors in Ningbo TV'sselection."

Under the control of Founder's automation software, material is ingested from VTRs to the Omneon server and then played out to air, also under automation control.

Broadcasting since 1984, the broadcast area of Ningbo TV includes the city of Ningbo and 11 surrounding counties with a total population of 10 million people.

"We are very excited to be doing business in China and very pleased that Ningbo TV has judged the Omneon Spectrum as the right product for their market at this time," said Geoff Stedman, vice president of marketing for Omneon. "It is a market that is beginning to expand and we expect many similar opportunities where broadcasters need to modernize their channels now but with a system that will leave them well prepared for future expansion as well."

Omneon will be demonstrating the Omneon Spectrum at BIRTV, the world-class broadcast and film equipment exhibition held in Beijing from Aug. 25-28.
