Alfacam at the Bejing Games with Lawo mc˛66

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – July 29, 2008 … Alfacam is one of the leading TV service providers in Europe, and will play a leading role in TV transmissions of the Summer Games. In Beijing, Alfacam will not only be handling the production of different types of international HD feeds, but also the worldwide broadcast of the opening and closing ceremonies.

Because of their deployment in Beijing, plus simultaneous obligations to clients in Europe, Alfacam substantially increased its fleet of OB vans. In 2007 and 2008 alone, 10 new trucks and a new Portable Production Unit (PPU), equipped with Lawo AG mc˛66 consoles, were commissioned to meet a series of upcoming productions.

To meet the strenuous demands of the greatest sporting event in 2008, Alfacam will be on site with a large number of OB vans. The Lawo mc˛66 consoles will provide the technical heart of the control rooms. The console control surfaces have 32 or 48 faders and offer 96 or 144 DSP channels. Nine of the Beijing-based Alfacam OB vans, as well as the PPU and four additional audio control rooms featuring Lawo mc˛ consoles will be producing crystal clear sound for the television broadcasts.

According to Alfacam, decisive reasons for purchasing their Lawo consoles included high reliability, flexibility, simple modular expansion, and ease of operation on the mc˛66. A short training time and the uniform design of the consoles means that every sound engineer can work in practically any OB van or audio control room.
