Lawo's Highly Flexible Solution for a New Convention Centre in Stuttgart

The Neue Messe GmbH & Co.KG company is creating a completely new trade fair centre, with 100,000 m² of exhibition space, close to Stuttgart Airport. The work on this mega project, which is currently Germany’s largest building site, started in September 2004. Also included in the development is the International Convention Centre (Internationales Congresscenter Stuttgart — ICS), which will be equipped with a network of four Lawo AG mc²66 mixing consoles and a Lawo Nova73 HD routing system.

The ICS will become the communication and event centre for the ‘Neue Messe Stuttgart’ (New Stuttgart Trade Fair), with around 8,000 m² and space for up to 9,300 visitors. The new multi-functional building can be adapted to suit a wide range of events, due to its flexible partition wall system and versatile room design. The convention rooms and exhibition hall can all be modified internally, as can an additional convention hall for 2,700 visitors, which can be divided into four smaller halls. Situated on the central square of the trade fair site, and at the eastern entrance to the centre itself, the ICS will mark a starting-point for the overall complex. The design also includes a seemingly floating convention area in the foyer.

Lawo’s technical audio solution of four networked mc²66 consoles, one central Nova73 HD routing system and 16 DALLIS I/O systems, provides the necessary flexibility and enables the innovative interior design to be experienced not only visually, but in sound. The I/O modules are shared by all of the mc²66 consoles. Two of the consoles have 16+16+8 faders, one provides 16+8+8 faders, and the fourth is equipped with 8+8+8 faders. Each console is fitted with a ‘Machine Control’ user panel. This offers comprehensive machine control for up to five external devices, including a jog/shuttle wheel and locate functions.

The ICS will pleasantly surprise exhibitors and visitors alike, not only with appealing architecture, but also with its acoustic design and the flexible, networked, Lawo solution.
