BR master control room in Munich

BR master control room in Munich

Bavarian Broadcaster Chooses Lawo

Following the renovation of production and on-air complexes used by ‘Bayern 2 Radio’ and ‘Bayern 4 Klassik’ stations, as well as a master control room in Munich, the Bavarian public broadcaster, Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), have now completed their move into digital technology. The companies involved, including a href="/display.php?C=512">Lawo AG , assembled on 19th July 2006 to celebrate the successful completion of this large project.

Lawo contributed significantly in this successful upgrade to a pure digital operation by supplying six zirkon mixing consoles for use in the production and on-air control rooms, two Nova17 matrices for the B2 and B4 programmes, and two double-star Nova73 HD routers for the master control room.

During the course of the project, the building areas were completely gutted and rebuilt. This facilitated perfect use of the new technology, as the rooms, lighting and air-conditioning systems are now perfectly suited for it.

When refurbishing Franconia’s regional studio in Nuremberg, BR also chose Lawo consoles and routing systems. The production and on-air complex now utilises a zirkon XL; two additional zirkon consoles are installed in the on-air facility. One Nova 17 is used as a broadcast matrix while general signal distribution is managed centrally by an additional Nova17 matrix.

The network scheduling software for both projects was developed by Lawo, in cooperation with the specialised software company DSA-Volgmann.

The broadcast matrix can be controlled from Nuremberg as well as from the master radio control room in Munich.

Overall responsibility for both projects was handled by the renowned German contractor, BFE.

Ulrich von Haller, BR’s Project Manager, who is responsible for the Munich and Nuremberg installations, states: “Thanks to Lawo’s hardware and software, the expectation of a single-source supplier for an efficient and stable audio system in our master control room, and for the on-air complexes, has been fully met. This is the reason we picked the same system for our Franconian studio in Nuremberg”.
