 | New Test and Measurement Products from Hamlet for Modern Infrastructures
NAB2009, Las Vegas, Stand #N1312: – At NAB2009 Hamlet is demonstrating its comprehensive range of high precision, cost effective test and measurement products, with updates in both 3Gb/s testing and quality control for file-based infrastructures. When budgets are tight, having reliable and affordable test tools to hand is a vital step to maintaining quality and retaining audiences.
Infrastructure engineering
Building and maintaining HD systems requires careful checking of the signal integrity at each step of the way. With 1080p systems and their 3Gb/s data rates, the challenge is even more intense. The Hamlet Flexiscope is popular among engineers working in this environment, because its ready portability means that the precision test tool can be constantly to hand.
The modular nature of Hamlet’s bespoke, all digital platform means that new functionality can be readily added as it is required. On display at NAB2009 are the latest modules which provide for 3Gb/s testing and now include the EYE pattern, the most widely used test for digital signal integrity. The same module is used in the Flexiscope, its smaller cousin the MicroFlex, and in Hamlet’s fixed installation tools the MicroScope and the DigiScope. All the new modules are deliverable today.
File-based systems
As broadcasters move towards file-based systems and exchange content over IP, the ingest process, and its realtime quality control inspection, has disappeared. Hamlet’s ReelCheck is a proven software product which performs all quality control tests on file-based content, faster than real time.
The latest release of ReelCheck software, to be unveiled at NAB2009, performs more than 30 different video checks simultaneously. The user sets up tolerance levels for each attribute and how failures are reported and actioned. The new release now supports SD and HD content in all the common formats and IMX, MXG and Quicktime wrappers.
VidScope uses the same software routines, running on a standard Windows computer, presenting test results on screen in realtime, with up to six concurrent displays on a single monitor. It supports all formats from SD and HD up to 2k and 4k digital cinema, including 12 and 16 bit video.
As well as a standalone product, VidScope is available as an OEM component that can be added into any third party application that needs precision video and audio monitoring. This is achieved either by using DirectShow or a simple DLL interface to allow VidScope to run on the same host platform as the application.
