Furman Sound Power Conditioners Protect Essential Recording of Florida Supreme Court Sessions

PETALUMA, Calif. — Nov. 30, 2005 — Furman Sound, the most widely recognized and trusted name in AC power conditioning, today announced that three courthouses in the 6th Florida Circuit Court system are protecting their newly upgraded A/V installations with PL-8 Series II power conditioners. Because audio of court sessions is recorded for later third-party reporting, systems integrator Southern Sound Equipment, LLC selected the Furman units to ensure that power problems do not interfere with the recording process.

"The state-of-the-art technologies that we have developed and implemented into our power conditioners provide the best protection against voltage irregularities available on the market," said Dave Keller, executive vice president of Furman Sound. "In critical applications like at the 6th Florida Circuit Court, where the failure of a recording device can result in big problems for the systems integrator as well as the court, Furman power conditioners are often chosen because of their high level of reliability and performance."

The first two installations — at courthouses in east Pasco and Pinellas counties — were completed over the summer, while the third installation in west Pasco will begin soon. Most of the work was done at night so that the courts could remain operational during the day. All three installations are virtually the same, each based on a high-end MediaMatrix® NION signal processing and amplification system from Peavey with electrical protection and noise filtering provided by a pair of Furman PL-8 Series II power conditioners. SS-4 four-outlet power strips from Furman are also being used.

Audio collected from the system's four zones — judge, attorney, jury, and gallery — is recorded and given to a third-party digital court reporting system to provide a written record of the proceedings. "We could not afford for the recording system to go down because then the digital recording system could not provide its essential reporting services," said Gary Griffith, pro audio/video systems designer at Southern Sound. "I needed power conditioners with the best build quality and the most advanced technologies to make these systems as reliable as possible, so I chose Furman Sound. Now that I've seen them in action, I've started to use them in other projects as well."

Furman's PL-8 Series II power conditioner features proprietary Series Multi-Stage Protection Plus (SMP+) technology, which combines three filtering and protection circuits: Linear Filtering Technology™ (LiFT) to suppress noise dramatically and consistently across the entire dynamic range; Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) to clamp and dissipate damaging transient voltages without sacrificing itself; and Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) to protect against accidental connections to 208 or 240 VAC. It has eight outlets on the rear panel, an additional outlet on the front panel, retractable LED rack lights, and a BNC connector that accepts any standard 12-volt gooseneck lamp. It is protected by a limited three-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.
