NEW YORK, N.Y., JULY 6, 2004 - Looking to satisfy an increasing demand
for cost-effective high definition (HD) production among its clients,
veteran equipment sales and rental company Abel Cine Tech selected the
Hanabi HVS-1000HS multi-format digital video switcher from FOR-A. The
switcher is the centerpiece of a new portable SD/HD production strategy
developed and offered by Abel that can include multiple Panasonic
VariCam HD cameras and is targeted at all types of 720p HD format
productions.
Throughout the past month alone Abel Cine Tech has used the HVS-1000HS
switcher for a live gospel concert for the Grace Baptist Church, in New
York City, and for a major music festival in Nashville, Tennessee called
"Bonnaroo". For the latter production the Hanabi switcher served as the
centerpiece of a complex production system that included 17 Panasonic
VariCam cameras on site in Nashville.
Arthur Rosato, freelance director/TD for the Bonaroo production (which
will be available on DVD), said the Hanabi switcher opened his eyes to
the unique possibilities of using such a compact frame and having a wide
range of functions at his fingertips.
"I was amazed at how easy the switcher's interface screen was to learn
and operate," said Rosato, who uses a wide range of switchers, including
higher-end models from other manufacturers that cost twice as much. "I
found the Hanabi switcher very easy to program, which saved me a lot of
time during the event. After using it, I went out and told all of my
director/TD friends. Now they can't wait to use it too."
"The key aspect that immediately attracted us to the Hanabi switcher was
the unit's small footprint," said Richard Abel, Vice President and
Director of Operations, Abel Cine Tech, who added that it's the ideal
switcher for his company's style of production. "Since it can handle
eight channels in such a small space, it's more conceivable to configure
fly packs and to take on other non-truck based HD jobs that need live
switching."
Abel said that the Hanabi HD switcher has enabled the company to expand
its rental market to include more live events, concerts and TV shows. He
added that several considerations attracted them to the FOR-A Hanabi HD
switcher: it's affordable without sacrificing key features; fully
expandable to 16 channels; and can handle any type of SDI and HD signal.
And because of the switcher's flexibility, Abel Cine Tech can employ the
Hanabi on a wide variety of rental projects, keeping it constantly busy.
"The Hanabi HVS-1000HS is very well suited for this type of multi-use
application," said Hiro Tanoue, Sales Manager/Eastern Region and
Central/South America, FOR-A Corporation of America. "We're pleased that
Abel Cine Tech has chosen the Hanabi switcher and consider the company a
great resource to get the word out on the value of this multi-standard,
multi-format switcher."
