36 Fujinon ENG-style HD Lenses to Capture Fox's Latest Mark Burnett Production, "Casino"
BURBANK, CA, January 15, 2004 — A full complement of Fujinon high definition lenses have been chosen to equip each of 18 Panasonic VariCam cameras to be used on the production of "Casino," a ground-breaking Fox reality show about the new owners of a Las Vegas casino.

Bexel, a leading provider of professional video rental equipment with facilities in eight major U.S. production markets, will equip the Casino project with a full complement of video and audio production equipment, including cameras, lenses, audio, support, field playback and down conversion equipment. The rental to Mark Burnett Productions is valued at more than $500,000.

The largest project ever created in the native 720P high definition format, Casino — produced by Mark Burnett, creator of Survivor — will employ 18 Varicams, each equipped with both a Fujinon HA22x7.8BERM HD production zoom and HA13x4.5BERM wide-angle zoom lens. In total, Bexel will provide at least 36 Fujinon lenses for the production of “Casino.”

The innovative program will be broadcast to Fox’s HDTV viewers in the 720P format, also employing the 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

Production begins Jan. 19 on location in Las Vegas and extends for six weeks. The Fox network broadcast is planned for the summer of 2004. The story will follow the new owners of the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino—Timothy Poster and Thomas Breitling. The duo bought the casino with money they earned from the sale three years ago of their Internet travel agency, Expedia.

Casino will present over 13 episodes of the daily adventures that Poster and Breitling encounter as they work to restore the Golden Nugget back into its earlier status as a premiere Las Vegas resort.

“This is the largest, most challenging high definition project Bexel has ever served, and we’re up for it with the best, field-proven equipment available,” said Tom Dickinson, vice president and general manager of Bexel Corp. “We feel Fujinon has the best high definition lenses for general purpose, day-to-day shooting. When the DP and Mark Burnett Productions also indicated a preference for Fujinon, there was no question which lenses would be used on Casino.”

Dickinson said Fujinon’s HD lenses have already established a favorable track record of performance at Bexel. “We love the Fujinon glass and have used them on many shows, including sitcoms,” he said.
