 | Ascent Media Acquires Multiple da Vinci Resolve. Systems for DI Processing
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands - Sept. 11, 2006 - da Vinci Systems, the industry-leading provider of color enhancement and image restoration products, today announced that Ascent Media has standardized on da Vinci's 2K Plus. and Resolve. digital mastering suite for digital intermediate (DI) image processing for several of the company's studios.
Beginning this month da Vinci will begin delivering Resolve systems for use on feature film, documentary, and commercial projects to several Ascent Media post-production facilities, including Company 3, RIOT, Encore Hollywood, and Ascent Media Service Digital Media Center Burbank.
"We looked at several systems but selected da Vinci because of their ability to handle 2K and 4K deliverables with such speed and efficiency," said Stefan Sonnenfeld, president of Company 3 and senior vice president for Ascent Media Creative Services. "We were particularly interested in Resolve's SAN-based workflow and formatting capabilities, which will afford our artists increased flexibility, performance, and control for grading and delivery of both feature film and commercial material."
The decision making behind this significant investment was based on a number of factors; among the most important was a collaborative effort by da Vinci and Ascent Media to optimize several unique workflows across multiple Ascent facilities.
Resolve's open architecture allows users to browse and select images from a SAN, giving multiple Ascent colorists the power to access the same material in any order, at any given time. Efficiencies are immediately apparent with colorists able to move quickly from the industry-standard da Vinci 2K to the Resolve and back using a familiar grading interface. Resolve's unique Transformer and PowerPlant technologies provide real-time 2K and 4K grading with a powerful workflow that allows creation of all the deliverables from a single master file, saving valuable time and storage.
"We've had a long-standing and collaborative relationship with Ascent Media, and we are pleased that they recognize just how powerful an impact Resolve can make within their post-production facilities," said Bill Robertson, vice president and general manager of da Vinci Systems. "da Vinci was able to tailor Resolve to meet the specific needs of Ascent's workflow and existing infrastructure, and we are confident that the new Resolve standard for Ascent's DI will enhance efficiencies and creativity in Ascent facilities worldwide."
Resolve's digital mastering suite of tools expands on da Vinci's Emmy. Award-winning 2K Plus color enhancement system with program-conforming tools designed specifically for the DI environment.
