 | da Vinci Introduces Transformer™, a Revolutionary High-Quality Image Translation Engine for Resolve®
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- Sept. 12, 2005 -- da Vinci Systems today announced the upcoming release of Transformer™, a flexible, highly integrated processor board for Resolve® that delivers a host of advanced filter algorithms in addition to pan, tilt, zoom, and rotate capabilities in real time at 2K resolution. Transformer provides very high-quality server-based resizing of 2K and 4K images, foregoing the need to resize images at the film scanning stage.
"Until now, the highest level of quality in image resizing was primarily limited to a less-efficient, more labor-intensive linear workflow. With the Resolve systems' Transformer processing, you're no longer required to resize at the telecine transfer stage," said Tony Fox, da Vinci's director of marketing. "While many software-based resizing techniques may sacrifice image quality and require an entire rack of scalar processors, Transformer delivers the highest-quality pan, tilt, zoom, and rotation to a non-linear, server-based color grading environment. This means high-quality resizing can be applied to images recorded from a film scanner or digital cinema camera, not just a telecine. With Transformer, the promise of the virtual telecine is truly realized."
Transformer is a high-speed image conversion and translation engine designed by da Vinci specifically for its digital mastering suite, Resolve -- combining da Vinci's Emmy® Award-winning image enhancement expertise and familiar interface with non-linear conforming tools. Now Transformer processing brings industry-leading image quality for pan, tilt, zoom, and rotate functions with resolution, bit-depth, and image aspect conversions for input and output processing on the Resolve platform -- all in real-time 2K resolution. Another important distinction of Resolve with Transformer is the ability to apply 1D and 3D LUTs on input and output while supporting ultra-high-quality image resolutions including 4K, and real-time or faster processing at resolutions up to 2K.
The Transformer board will be included with all current models of Resolve by the end of 2005.
