“VTB-2A MkII - reputedly the world's smallest broadcast composite switcher.

Demonstrations Of World's Smallest Composite Switcher Entice Attendees At NAB 2005

Las Vegas, NV (April 18, 2005) – Brick House Video, manufacturer of compact, cost-effective products for production and post -production, is demonstrating the VTB-2A MkII - reputedly the world's smallest broadcast composite switcher and winner of TV Technology’s coveted Mario award at NAB 2003, in Booth SU9807 at NAB 2005. The feature-rich, analogue switcher has enjoyed enormous success in areas where portability is crucial and reliable operation in the field is critical such as hard news gathering and location production.

The VTB-2A, a compact, portable, powerful, low-cost, 4-input field switcher is equally at home on shoots or in satellite trucks. Operationally, the VTB-2A is of the conventional program/preview configuration, however, its two additional switched auxiliary outputs allow it to offer 4x4 routing facilities. The features include take (cross-cut), auto/manual mix and wipe and auto fade to black. The auto functions are variable in the range 0 - 5 seconds. PAL/NTSC switching is fitted as standard and all outputs are broadcast specification.

The VTB-2A runs from a nominal 12V DC (actual 10 - 18V) via a standard XLR connector. Its low current consumption makes it ideal for battery powering; a BP-90 will typically provide more than 12 hours continuous use. The unit is shipped with a universal power supply (90-263V AC).

For stand-alone operation, input 1 is defined as the sync source. Other sources are genlocked via the black and burst outputs derived from input 1. There is also an external reference input, and the connection of a composite signal at this point will cause the VTB-2A to switch over automatically, allowing the user to lock the switcher to an external reference. Should the external reference fail for any reason, the switcher will revert to input 1 syncs without significant interruption to the program output.

The GPI port offers open collector tally outputs, which will operate external devices such as tally lights to a limit of 60V at 500mA. Access to triggers for the take and fade to black functions and bus selection are also available at this connector.
