DAISY CHAIN” SIGNAL EXTENSION TO BOXX MERIDIAN HD WIRELESS SYSTEM INTRODUCED AT NAB 2010

Las Vegas, Nev. – Monday, April 12, 2010 – Boxx TV, a market leader in the design and installation of “zero delay” wireless broadcast solutions, is introducing the “daisy chain” extension to its innovative Meridian high-definition digital wireless system at the National Association of Broadcasters convention and exhibition, being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center on April 12-15.

With the “daisy chain” technology added to a Meridian system, a production can extend its wireless shooting range well beyond the walls of any broadcast facility or sports arena, and transmit through concrete walls and other obstacles.

“Daisy chain” technology is similar in concept to the way that cell phone systems pass moving conversations transparently from cell to cell. It enables the Boxx signal technology to pass uncompressed HD signals through a series of receivers along long pathways: a hallway, a field, etc. An untethered camera can follow a player from an arena floor, through long hallways into a locker room, shooting continuously in HD, with no trailing cables –and no cable wranglers.

The system was first used in February during the Vancouver Winter Olympics: installed at General Motors Place by the Vancouver Canucks for its home games and an integral part of the international hockey coverage. Multiple receivers were placed at key spots in the arena, including the player bench on the arena floor, and also in the player change room, gym and the press center, allowing wireless pictures in uncompressed HD to be integrated into any event. In addition, Sony cameras using a wireless remote camera control system were able to communicate directly to a Sony remote control panel (RCP): another unique Boxx feature which allows original manufacturers’ RCPs to be used with its system.

Boxx Meridian systems are designed for use in any venue such as indoor arenas, outdoor stadiums, auditoriums and television studios where short haul wireless transmissions are vital. With a typical operational range of two football fields. Boxx uses MIMO antenna technology to handle numerous channels in the 5.1-5.8 GHz spectrum, enabling single cameras to shoot from multiple positions, and multiple cameras to be deployed throughout an arena or similar facility. No frequency licenses are needed.

“With ‘daisy chain’ technology added to our Meridian system, there is virtually no aspect of any live or live-on-tape event that cannot now be covered,” said Boxx Chief Technical Officer Scott Walker. “It raises the bar of how and where directors can deploy their cameras and capture pictures that bandwidth limitations or cable handling would have made virtually impossible. We’re pleased to offer this addition to our technologically advanced HD wireless system.

The “daisy chain” technology is now available as an option to the Meridian system. Meridian systems are available from Boxx TV and its international network of resellers.
