| Avocent Showcases Digital KVM Extension Over LAN at NAB 2009 LAS VEGAS, April 17, 2009 – Avocent Corporation, a global leader in IT Operations Management and Broadcast KVM Switching, will showcase its broadcast solutions at the NAB Show in Las Vegas being held April 18 to 23, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center on booth # SL13616. Avocent will demonstrate two of its offerings for broadcast settings: The Avocent HMX, a revolutionary Digital KVM extension and switching solution that provides engineers and editors with access and control, over the LAN to their computing resources located outside of studios, edit suites, and control rooms; and the Avocent Analog AMX switching solution, which also enables broadcast engineers and editors console access to their ever growing computing environment. The Avocent HMX Digital Extender System The HMX provides the ability to extend 1920 x 1200 DVI, and is being rapidly adopted as the extension standard in the most demanding environments. The Avocent HMX Digital Extension system provides production engineers with the means to access and control all of the computers they are authorized to access from any HMX user station, while maintaining computing resources in an environmentally-controlled and secure equipment room. “The Avocent HMX extender is the digital component between your digital video card and digital display,” said John Curran, HMX Product Manager, Avocent Corporation. “Our ‘lossless’ compression provides the highest quality video experience without distance limitation, as the HMX is built on TCP/IP standards and rides the LAN. The HMX also provides audio compression which offers CD quality audio transported from the computer to the user with no loss in quality.” A third advantage is USB redirection that allows standard USB keyboard and mouse peripherals to be extended from the computer over the network to the remote user, without the use of any computer drivers or software. The HMX extender system is a TCP/IP-based digital extension solution that provides a high performance user experience, utilizing a gigabit-Ethernet infrastructure. The HMX extends keyboard, mouse, single or dual-DVI video, USB, and audio using standard TCP/IP protocols and are comprised of three components - transmitters; receivers; and the HMX Manager for switching capability. Each component is assigned a unique IP address and connects via a single Cat6 cable. The Digital Extension technology behind the HMX uses a Virtual USB channel that is provided to connect a non-standard human interface device, such as a Wacom tablet or non-linear editing peripherals to the computer. A USB storage media device that is attached to the user station is also extended to the computer over the network via the HMX Virtual Media channel. The Avocent Analog AMX Broadcast KVM Matrix The Avocent Analog AMX switching solution is the first KVM for broadcast solution to provide seamless dual head switching, causing the AMX to become the standard for edit environments across the globe. It enables broadcast engineers to control their machine room computers and devices from a single user interface. This centralized interface lets operators and engineers in multiple locations access the same devices from any AMX location. • Delivers high resolution video up to 1920 x 1200 VGA • Provides seamless dual head switching • Greatly simplifies reconfigurations and eases administration as the broadcast environment changes.
