Adtec Headend delivers 140 channels of IPTV
Nashville, Tenn.—Adtec Digital’s DTA-3050 media gateways, edje-2100 DTV encoders and middleware were deployed last month on a 140-channel Television over IP (IPTV) project in central London.

Touted as one of Europe’s larger IPTV deployments, the project aggregates content from pan-European satellite (DVB-S), UK terrestrial (DVB-T) and internal analog feeds. The project was managed by IT solutions provider SCC. Systems integration was provided by Trimedia Broadcast Ltd.

“Enterprises are enthusiastic about IPTV solutions,” Trimedia Managing Director, John Donovan, said. “Foremost, it’s a way to provide employees with the information needed to carry out their jobs.”

“The hospitality industry is buying IPTV,” Donovan said. “For a hotel, it provides high-quality, free-to-air and pay-to-view content for guests within a corporate-branded, interactive program guide.”

Designed for European markets, the DTA-3050 delivers IPTV for approximately 1500 euros or approximately $1800 USD per channel. “A version of the product is available with integrated DVB-T and DVB-S tuners and a CACI interface (DTA-3150),” Adtec International Sales Engineer, Michael Bush, said. “It aggregates free-to-air and DVB scrambled services from six DVB multiplexes.”

Selected services are output on a Gigabit Ethernet interface as MPEG 2 single program transport streams. For DVB headends, a re-multiplex option delivers ASI output.

“The DTA-3050 is an integral part for any IP headend deployment for cable, satellite, corporate and hospitality markets,” Bush said. “It integrates with interactive middleware for managing IP set-tops.”

Adtec’s edje-2100 is a Real Time MPEG 2 distribution encoder with the ability to route MPEG transport streams over ASI or IP when deployed with the DTA-3050.

Trimedia Broadcast Ltd. is one of the UK’s leading Digital Broadcast and Corporate communication consultancies, with over 50 years of combined experience working with leading Braodcast and MPEG 2 technology.
