Routing Switchers (Video)

Routing Switchers are typically the backbone of a facility infrastructure. Traditionally consisting of one or more levels of crosspoint matrices and a control system, newer systems allow for signal processing and conversion within the router. Sophisticated controls systems allow far more than simple salvos and takes. Automation interfaces, TCP/IP networking and interfaces to production and master control switchers all extend the usefulness of today's router.

Rarely are routers replaced wholesale. More likely is an upgrade for newer signal types or extension of the current routing capabilities with additional frames and crosspoints. Upgrades of this type require tight control system integration. Successful integration requires an understanding of the current uses and user interface.

Signal routing also extends beyond simply audio and video. Additional signals may need to be routed around a modern facility. These signals could include additional audio channels, monitor feeds, time code, KVM switches, tally information and more. Routers have always simplified signal movement within facilities. Additionally, signals are routed in different physical layers; coax, twisted pair, and fiber. Today's designs allow you to get more out of your existing equipment as they can make it possible to use any device anywhere in your facility.
