Flat-Panel/LCD Displays and Monitors
Flat panel displays are everywhere, from cellular phones to portable DVD players to laptops and on up to larger displays for desktop and wall mount. And why not, they are lightweight, bright and relatively damage resistant. They operate in a wide range of temperature and ambient lighting.
Portable vs. fixed use is a primary concern when considering a flat panel display. Obviously those designed for portable use must be able to withstand extreme temperatures, moisture and rough handling. Lightweight, compact units are usually best suited for this applications, especially those that accept a range of inputs, are battery powered and offer built-in convenience items like a stand and handle.
Fixed applications need a higher quality output but may also require a range of inputs, as matching units used on a newsroom or studio set may need to accept both computer and video inputs. Many fixed displays are built-in to larger devices such as video switchers and audio consoles. It is important that these can be easily obtained and replaced, as they are often needed for menus, setup and daily operations. |
