Television Transmitters, Translators
Transmitters exist in a variety of configurations and power levels. Today's most sophisticated designs offer computer-based control of solid state or tube amplifiers. Many are air-cooled but liquid cooling and other options exist. Considerations such as size and weight can play roles beyond installation, and are important factors to consider. Larger models may take up more room in the transmitter building, but may make maintenance much more efficient.
With the transition to digital television, many systems may be newer, however, some broadcasters are running on older units designed to get through the transition period. Those that are may be looking for the latest technology to carry them into the futre.
