Master Clock Systems
Long before NTP was commonplace, master clock systems were a fixture in many broadcast facilities. These systems were often locked to WWV through black boxes cooked up by the local engineer. Today, GPS-locked systems based on time code, NTP or both are commonplace. While most computer-based equipment functions with NTP, there is no shortage of equipment that still requires time code as it's primary reference.
As the time delays introduced by digital get longer, it has become more
and more important to be able to unlock master clock systems from an absolute reference and instead reference clocks to the incoming network feed while compensating for local decoding/encoding operations.
In addition to master clocks, large readable displays are aften needed in studios, control areas and newsrooms. Not only are these large displays helpful for staff and support personnel, but they are quite impressive to visitors, and can provide visual impact for set designs. |
