Microphones and Accessories

Since the earliest days of recording, microphones have been integral to the process. Dynamic mics are rugged, require no power and have acceptable frequency response, especially for stand-up voice work in the field (reporters). Condenser mics require power and can offer excellent frequency response. For the best overall response, both the microphone type and patter must be considered. Patterns include omnidirectionals, cardioids shotguns and more. Both wired and wireless units are available for nearly any application.

Of course, proper use of a microphone typically requires accessories of some sort. Stands, vibration mounts and windscreens can all add to the overall quality of a recording. And no self-respecting station would air reporter footage without the venerable mic flag in full view. Of course mics and screens can also be purchased in a variety of colors to either stand out or disappear into the background.

When choosing microphones and accessories, the expected use (indoor/outdoor), sound quality (news/production/studio) and cost are all important considerations to ensure you get the most value from your purchase.
